Washington State

National Guard Grant

For eligible Washington National Guard members and eligible dependents attending approved Washington programs. For 2026–27, maximum base awards vary by institution type, with an additional one-time books/supplies allowance possible.

Federal Tuition Assistance

Eligible Soldiers can receive up to $250 per semester hour, up to 18 semester hours / $4,500 per fiscal year across Tuition Assistance and Credentialing Assistance.

VA Education Benefit

Montgomery GI Bill – Selected Reserve

Chapter 1606 can provide a monthly payment directly to eligible students. Washington's Education Office lists $493/month for full-time enrollment effective Oct. 1, 2025.

Enlistment / Retention Incentive

GI Bill Kicker

An additional monthly GI Bill payment for Soldiers who qualify and have the required Kicker contract. It isn't a stand-alone benefit and eligibility depends on the Soldier and contract.

Minuteman Scholarship

For qualified ROTC candidates committed to Reserve Component service. Washington's 2026–27 campaign lists full tuition and fees or room and board up to $12,000/year, plus book and ROTC stipends.

The advantage is in the combination.

Some benefits may be used alongside others. For example, Washington's Education Office says eligible Soldiers can use Chapter 1606 with Federal Tuition Assistance for the same course when attending at least half-time, and WSAC encourages eligible Guard Grant applicants to apply for both NGG and FTA. Your exact package depends on eligibility, enrollment, contracts, financial aid, and program rules.
